David had the idea of being photographed in the manner of Josephine Baker based upon a photograph of her taken by Boris Lipnitzki in 1926 where she appeared lying on the ground and posing in the manner of a wild animal. Josephine Baker (1926) The Terry O’Neill session resulted in a number of images which would be pivotal in the creation of the Diamond Dogs cover and future publicity.
